     Breaking Out of the Welfare Trap Booklet 2018/9 

We will assist with information on local job vacancies, developing a winning CV, applying for employment and getting training in job seeking skills. We are a professional, client centered service supporting people in their decision making that will prepare them for the workforce and gain sustainable employment.

We also provide for further training / education that lead to suitable employment. We assist with “Welfare to Work” information and provide an extensive information service on incentives and entitlements in the transition to work from Job Seekers Payments.

We have staff who will work one to one with clients to assist to develop a career plan relevant to their skills, experience and career goal.

Southside Partnership Local Employment Service is a “Quality Approved” Service and has achieved the Q Mark since 2006.

Working with an Employment Guidance Officer on Career Options and Job Seeking

employment supportWe work with clients, identifying their strengths, their skills and experience and a progression plan that will assist clients to return to the work force. The plan may include; the development of a Professional CV, training in how to apply for work, specific skills training that will give the client certification to work in a specific sector e.g. PSA Licence for Security HACCP for the Food/Hospitality Sector, Safepass/Manual Handling for the Construction Sector. Call into our office and enjoy the experience of the Local Employment Service.

Jobs Fair 2018 - Dundrum Town Centre

The bustle of enthusiastic and hopeful attendees at this yearsJobs Fair in Dundrum Town Centre, demonstrated that despite lowering unemployment figures, there is still a continued need for employment supports and events for job seekers. Large numbers of potential employees availed of the opportunity to speak directly to employers recruiting for a huge variety of vacancies, many within the Town Centre itself and some external companies, including the Dalata Hotel Group who are currently recruiting for hotel staff in 5 of their hotels.  Southside Partnership Local Employment Service staff were on hand at this dynamic event to provide expert guidance and support as well as a CV clinic which was a big hit on the day.

Jobs Expo 2017

The Southside Partnership Local Employment Service ran a very successful Jobs Expo in the Town Hall Dun Laoghaire on 26th July.

The event was extremely well attended with very positive feedback from both employers and attendees, many noting in particular the warm, welcoming and dynamic atmosphere.

Employers and recruitment agencies attending included:  Tesco Ireland, SSE Airtricity, SAP Landscaping, Servisource, ASL Safety, Home Instead, CPL Recruitment, Sodexo, CareLink and Employability Dublin. 

This event will be followed by a Careers Week from 9th to 13th October - more details to follow. 

Careers Week Highlights 2017

Day 1 Jobs Fair - There was great participation from Employers at the Jobs Fair in Dundrum Town Centre which kicked off our Careers Week on 9th October.

17 of the Dundrum Town Centre residents took part in the event -

Jamie’s Italian,  House of Fraser, M & S, Golden Discs, The Body Shop, Jack and Jones, Boots, Tesco, Next, Superdry, Peter Mark, Edvard and Pink Beauty, Hotel Chocolat, Toni & Guy, Eddie Rockets, Clarks and Brambles, along with Home Instead and the ETB.

Day 2 Employment Seminars & CV Bootcamp

Along with a lively and informative CV Bootcamp with our own Bernard Fennessy, day 2 of the Careers Week involved job seekers being provided with gems of wisdom from Peter Cosgrove, Director with CPL Recruitment (who recently received an award in recognition for his contribution to the recruitment industry by the National Recruitment Federation) in relation to 'Finding the Job You Want' and 'Applying for Work in the Digital Age' with Alison Walsh and team from Servisource Recruitment.

Day 3 'Fresh Start'

An inspiring and informative seminar from the National Learning Network on Day 3 of Careers Week. The Lexicon Library was the perfect venue and facilitated an interactive session on the services available to job seekers / learners who have had an accident or an illness or who have a disability, on the range of flexible courses available.
Sincere thanks for Shay, Oonagh and Claire for a very valuable and enlightening session.

Day 4  Apprenticeships

Fiona Burke, Senior Training Advisor with the Education and Training Board Apprenticeship services, delivered a very informative seminar on Apprenticeship opportunities.  Fiona provided details of the types of apprenticeships available, eligibility criteria, the process and duration involved and opportunities available to job seekers when their apprenticeship is complete.

Day 5  CV Bootcamp

Bernard Fennessy (Jobs Club Facilitator) delivered a CV Bootcamp on the final day of Careers Week in STAG (Southside Travellers Action Group).  Jean Dunne, Employment Guidance Officer also provided information on the services available from the Local Employment Service, emphasising our client centred approach. Many thanks to STAG for hosting the event.
