Promoting Inclusion of Minority Groups
This strategy focuses on working with specific minority groups in the Southside Partnership DLR area and supporting them to engage with local and national decision makers. The three specific target groups are Travellers, People with Disabilities (DIG) and Members of Ethnic Minorities (ARD). During 2008, the Partnership DLR is also developing a programme to reach out to and support members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community.
Specific actions have included the following:
Travellers:
- Technical assistance to Southside Travellers Action Group (STAG)
- Funding for an Advocacy Worker position to promote the rights of Travellers in the area.
Ethnic Minorities
- Active leadership and support for the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Anti-Racism and Diversity Plan
- Funding and publication of an evaluation of the Monday Night Drop-In Programme for Young People operated by the Dún Laoghaire Refugee Project.
People with Disabilities
- Support and technical assistance to the Disabilities Interest Group, a network of People with Disabilities in Dún Laoghaire Rathdown
- Supporting representation of People with Disabilities on the Dún Laoghaire County Council Disability Consultation Group.
Older People
- Technical assistance and training of the Dún Laoghaire Network of Older People in assessing the needs of older people in the county.
